Nylon Halter Maintenance & Adjustment

Washing and Cleaning:

Nylon halters and lead straps can be put in an old pillowcase with the end tied shut and washed in a washing machine. (alone or with jeans best….not white!)  The pillowcase will help to catch hair and dirt and protect the inside of the  machine from being banged by the hardware.

When wash is finished, take the halters  out and hang outside to air dry.

Frayed Edges :

If  any nylon webbing  frays along the edges, carefully singe the frayed edges with a cigarette lighter,  matches or the flame on a gas range.  If a nylon lead or rope is frayed on the end you can melt the ends this same way. Use caution as the melting nylon is VERY hot, it may drip with excess heat

 Adding Holes to adjust fit:

If you need more holes in your nylon halter to adapt the fit heat a nail (hold with pliers!)  and melt additional holes in the strap. When your nail is hot enough it will melt right through……. I heat the nail second time & go through from the other side to seal all the edges and get a smoother finish.
